KKU and the OCSC join forces to reduce stress among civil servants in

       The Secretary of the OCSC and the president of KKU welcomed participants and opened a project improving the capacity and quality of life of civil servants in the South. This is the second batch.

       On the 18th of February 2014, Mr. Nonthikorn Kanchanajitra, Secretary of the Office to the Civil Servants Commission (OCSC) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kittichai Triratanasirichai, President of Khon Kaen University (KKU) presided over the opening ceremony of the Improving the capacity and quality of life of civil servants in the Southern border provinces project. This project is held on from the 17th until the 22nd of February 2014 at Charoenthani Hotel Khon Kaen and Charoen Hotel Udon Thani. Participants consist of 92 civil servants from the Southern border provinces, Yala, Pattani Narathiwat and Songkla. Most of the participants are teachers. The project was honored with a visit by Mr. Niran Hayimasamae, Chairman of the Islamic Committee of Khon Kaen who welcomed participants.

       Assoc. Prof. Dr. Amnouy Kamtuo, Director of the Center for Academic Services, Chairman of the Organizing Committee said: “The Improving the capacity and quality of life of civil servants in the Southern border provinces project is held for the 9th time by the OCSC and the second time by Khon Kaen University. The training has the aim of 1) to relax and get away from a pressing work environment and dangerous living conditions for a short time, 2) to improve knowledge and skills needed in civil service work in the Southern border provinces, 3) to promote knowledge and offer training in healthcare and methods to deal with stress from work and 4) to create good relations between civil servants.

       The training included lectures to offer relaxation and reduce stress, cultural study trips in Khon Kaen, the Suffciency Economy village, Ubon Rat district, Khon Kaen, the Cooperative Community village Nakha, Khon Kaen, Udon Thani province, study the economic circumstances of society in Nong Khai, the 7th most livable city in the world. Also there were boat trips along the Mekong river to see the economic situation of the Thai and Laotian banks. Participants underwent health checks by the Faculty of Associated Medical Science and the economic situation of the tourism sector in Khon Kaen was studied.

       Mr. Nonthikorn Kanchanajitra, Secretary of the Office to the Civil Servants Commission (OCSC) said in his opening speech: “The project gives Khon Kaen University, Chiang Mai University and Mae Fah Luang University the task to carry out training and Khon Kaen University is the favorite of participants. The project is one that the OCSC has carried out for several years and many governments which shows that this project is not the policy of one government but on that places importance on civil servants. The nation should thank you for placing effort and dedication in working in the South. The project shows the unity and cooperation of Thais and civil servants no matter where they are from. This is the important duty of the project which is made a success thanks to the cooperation of different organizations which care about the civil servants in the South. Thanks to the Finance Department of Khon Kaen University, Thai Airways as well as government and private organizations, speakers and all staff members for cooperating with the OCSC. We sincerely hope this project helps the civil servants in the South relax and gain the strength to continue work in the South. The knowledge and experience will be of good use and act as encouragement to lead a good life in the situation there. We also hope participating in the project helped you gain friends and have a good time.”

       Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kittichai Triratanasirichai, President of Khon Kaen University said: “Khon Kaen University is honored with the task to take care of the civil servants from the South. In the past years, the university was evaluated with a high score for looking after the guests; we are proud of this. We conserve historical relations in the 5 to 6 days that the guests are among us. Visitors will get a warm welcome and there is entertainment and informative activities. There are occasions to visit different locations chosen by the Academic Services Division. Although we live in Isan and you live in the South, we encourage you to have fun and a good time with us. Welcome to Khon Kaen and Khon Kaen University.”

        Kasemnee Chiwthamai, representative of participants of the training from Yala talked about his feelings and said: “I am very happy and exited to visit Khon Kaen and I feel warmly welcomed by the staff members. The knowledge I gained I will integrate in the region at home.”
